COVID-19 Issue: The Demand of Ventilators Is Now Ten Times Higher
The increasing number of COVID-19 infected patients is very alarming and fearful. In addition to this, the virus is also increasing the demand for ventilators globally. Can you imagine the situation? Everything is in problem; everything is in high demand. The top medical device maker of China has ensured this.
Chinese ventilator makers and Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co. have observed a sudden increase in the demand for ventilators as the hospitals are asking more of them. In some severe cases, the accessibility of a ventilator will determine either the COVID-19 infected patient will die or live.
On Wednesday, in an interview with the Bloomberg, the board secretary of the company named Li Wenmei said that the demand is increasing, and the orders that they generally take are more than their present capacity. COVID-19 has already taken the lives of more than 18,000 people, and due to this death toll, doctors from Milan to New York are searching for ventilators desperately. The U.S. President, Donald Trump has provided the auto-makers such as Tesla Inc. to make ventilators to fill up the demand.
The Society of Critical Care Medicine has determined that around 960,000 patients would need this ventilator support because of COVID-19 infection. But unfortunately, only in the U.S., the number of ventilators is only 200,000. In Italy, there is a serious shortage of ventilators, and doctors are now paying immediate attention to their patients.
Mindray generally makes around 3000 ventilators per month and is now trying to deliver the orders to overseas buyers because of their urgent needs. The company is delaying to deliver the ventilators in their domestic buyers – as Li said. The new case of infection by coronavirus is very serious across the world. Mindray, to meet up the requirements, has to manufacture 30000 monitors per month. Ventilators will pump the oxygen into the lungs and will remove CO2 from the body.
